Retrofitting an established suburb
Allen is a city in southwestern Collin County, about eight miles southwest of McKinney, and a northern suburb in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. In an established suburb, a common request is getting an existing attic to stop heating the rooms below it.
A retrofit usually starts with an attic inspection: what insulation is there now, where the ducts run, and whether old batts or loose fill should come out before foam goes on the roof deck.
Bonus rooms, additions and garages
Rooms built over a garage are a frequent complaint because they have outside air on several sides. Sealing and insulating the floor, knee walls and roof line together often matters more than any single surface.
Additions and garage conversions are a good time to spray open walls, since the framing is exposed before drywall goes on.
Before you get an Allen quote
- Tell the installer which rooms are uncomfortable and in which season.
- Ask whether existing attic insulation will be removed or left in place, and why.
- Ask how the attic HVAC equipment and ductwork will be handled once the attic is sealed.
- Plan to stay out of the home during spraying and for the re-entry time your installer gives you.
